Milana is an iPhone app that helps the people who live together share a home: camera alerts, a to-do list, groceries, steps and sleep. This policy says what Milana collects, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept and how you delete it. Questions: hello@himilana.com.
The short version
- We do not sell your data, show advertising or track you across other apps and websites.
- What you put in Milana is shared with the members of your home and nobody else.
- Camera pictures and events are deleted after 30 days.
- Milana does not recognise faces.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name, and the identifier Sign in with Apple gives us, or your phone number if you sign in with a text message code.
- Your home. The members of your home, and the to-do and grocery items you add.
- Camera pictures. The pictures your own cameras upload to Milana when they see motion, and what Milana writes about them (for example "a white pickup stopped in the driveway"), including a car's license plate when one is readable, so it can recognise a car you have marked as yours.
- Health, only if you turn it on. Your daily steps, workouts and sleep from Apple Health, shared with your home on the board. Each person turns this on for themselves on their own phone.
- Arrivals, only if you turn it on. Your home's location, and the times your phone arrives home or leaves, so your family knows a car in the driveway is probably you. Milana does not keep a history of where you go.
- Your home's internet address, when you ask Milana to let your cameras in. Milana's server only accepts camera uploads from addresses it has let in, so it keeps the address of the home you asked from, and adds it to the server's firewall. It is not used for anything else and goes when you delete your account.
- Notifications. A device token from Apple so Milana can send notifications to your phone.
- The waitlist. If you join the waitlist on this website: your first name, email and the cameras you have.
Who else handles it
- Anthropic (the Claude AI model) reads camera pictures to write the short description in each alert. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models under its commercial terms.
- Apple delivers notifications and handles Sign in with Apple and your subscription payments.
- Telnyx sends the sign-in code if you sign in with your phone number.
- Amazon Web Services hosts Milana's server in the United States.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and stores the waitlist.
None of them may use your data for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
- Camera pictures and events: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- Steps, sleep and arrivals: until you turn sharing off (which deletes them) or delete your account.
- Everything else: until you delete it or delete your account.
- Waitlist entries: until Milana is open to you, or until you ask us to remove you.
Deleting your data
In Milana, open Settings and tap Delete My Account. Your account and everything that belongs to you is deleted. When the last member of a home deletes their account, the home, its camera pictures and its camera password are deleted too. To be removed from the waitlist, email hello@himilana.com.
Children
Milana is meant for adults who run a home. Accounts are not for children under 13.
Security
All traffic is encrypted. Your cameras upload over an encrypted connection with a password made for your home, and Milana never connects into your cameras or your home network.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes, and anything important is announced in the app first.
